If the folders (Inbox, Sent Items, Deleted Items, Junk Mail...) are not displayed in the mail client, Outlook has not read their list properly. To correct the synchronisation error, access the mailbox settings:

File -> Information -> Account Settings -> Account Settings... -> double-click on the email address concerned -> More settings... -> Advanced tab -> Under Folders The path to the root folder: -> enter exactly the following text here: Inbox -> click OK to save the change

Then, in the navigation window on the left, right-click on the email address and then on Update folder list in the menu that appears.

For Outlook 2007+

If you have created a new folder on the mail server using another application or a web browser and the new folder is not visible in the IMAP Folders dialog box, you can update the folder list using the following procedure:

In Mail view, right-click the top-level folder of the IMAP account in the navigation pane.
    Click Update Mailing List.

Store special folders on the IMAP server: checked
Path to sent items: INBOX.Sent
Path to items: Drafts
Path to deleted items: Trash
